Stories of the Wagner Opera 1910 by H. A. Guerber

This illustrated book from 1910 explains the content and symbolism of Wagner's productions. Wagner's rich Germanic symbolism is woven throughout. On a darker note, this also made his works quite an inspiration of Adolf Hitler, who was twenty-one at the time of this book's release, and already obsessed with Germanic culture. Wagner’s own virulent antisemitism, expressed most explicitly in his essay Judaism in Music, also aligned with Nazi ideology, which later appropriated Wagner as a cultural symbol of “pure” German art.
